HFAA
RECOGNIZES BEST EMPLOYEES
Written by Veronica McLymont, PhD, RD, CDN
It literally
“takes a village”
to make any foodservices operation work. Yet there are some
employees who without a doubt stand out among the many that make up
such operations, and deserved to be recognized.
HFAA chose National Food Service Workers Week as the time to host
its annual gala/dinner event where facilities can recognize their
best employees. For
over 20 years, our organization has hosted the recognition event.
The tradition started when it used to be hosted at Cabrini Medical
Center, and after several years it graduated to a restaurant
setting. This year, the picturesque Russo’s on the Bay was a
welcome change of venue, topped off with a sumptuous menu. The
gala was well attended by members, nominees, vendor members, and
guests with pre-registration quickly closing out at 122 attendees.
Thirty one local health care facilities submitted two nominees each.
Their moment to shine had arrived! The night was all
about promoting these employees who provided outstanding services as
a vital part of their healthcare environment. Managers bragged about
their employees; from those who preformed amazing tasks, “took
charge” during Hurricane Irene, to those who were innovative, and
proactive in their operations.
Managers raved about their nominees’ role in improving customer
satisfaction, focusing on innovation, and using best practices to
exceed expectations. From the preparation to the delivery of food
for patients, staff and visitors, they often work behind the scenes,
usually going above and beyond,
to execute their duties.
Most importantly, managers acknowledged that they “could not do it”
without these employees on their team to help them.
Each recipient received a certificate of recognition, and a bottle
of wine as a gift from HFAA. Probably the best part of the
evening was the pride the recipients exuded, when their names were
called to be recognized. There was genuine joy among them as they
rose from their seats and were recognized by their managers and
peers for their outstanding contributions.
The evening’s Susan G. Komen raffle was also a huge success with
over $500.00 dollars raised for breast cancer research.
According to HFAA President, Frank Coffey, President, “It would
certainly be wonderful if HFAA could continue to be associated with
this endeavor. It would also be wonderful if our Association could
also be recognized as well for this undertaking”.
The list below shows facilities and vendor members who participated
in this event.
